Assault and Battery, Drumstick... Holiday Week Begins Stressful but with Promise 12/19/11

OK so lets be up front and frank about it. Stress abounds as we enter/deepen into the holiday season. We may be acutely aware of the emotional discomfort that comes with the difficulties we have setting boundaries with, and communicating with others. Negotiations are not going smoothly, and honestly most of us ain't feeling all that generous in terms of the amount of crap we wanna put up with.  It ain't been an easy year, and really most of us are trying to redefine our relationship to our own incomes, if only to hedge our bets.  That's a nice way of saying we feel broke as a joke! (Venus Capricorn Aquarius Cusp T-Square Jupiter retrograde Aries/Taurus cusp- Moon Conjunct Saturn Libra)

But before you break down and end up doing 8-12 for Assault and battery (For cramming stuffing down great Aunt Norine's self-righteous pie-hole... IS IT TOO DRY NOW?!?!?) lets take a step back and look at all the potential around us:

This is, for example, a great time to bring our spirituality and practical needs into mutual focus and balance, and begin to formulate a concrete vision of the future.  By balancing our greatest ideals and aspirations with things we know we can do right now, we can begin to come up with a good long term plan- not drop dead excitement, but really sometimes stability is more sexy in outcome than it is in process.  Plus with that much Neptune we can pretend its fun, and it will be!

Gratitude is Sustenance: Lunar T-Square Neptune, with Mercury 12/15/ 2011

First off there are a few prominent sets of aspects still in effect that have been hanging around for a bit. so basically the gist of the last two astrology readings may to some degree still be somewhat apropos.  A part from these, a "T-Cross consisting of Neptune in Pisces (Aquarius cusp) opposing the moon in Leo, square  to Mercury in Sagittarius, Square to Neptune Pisces   is the most prominent configuration of bodies right now.  


So as we continue to witness the birthing pangs of a new future to be through a reborn Uranus in Aries (representing the march of the future, a new openness, and notions of social liberty and equality) squaring off (in more ways than one) against Pluto in Capricorn (representing both corruption and power manipulations within the realm of politics, finance, commerce and the law)   This is the main feature of the long term "big picture" landscape.  Also there is a Jupiter in retrograde conjunct Lilith in Taurus.  Here  Jupiter questions and tries to redefine how we view the concepts of growth on all levels, and it is forced to deal with, or is stifled by Lilith's representation of all the dark realities we may try to hide from, and in Taurus it is about what we own.  Literally it is the dark secrets of our material possessions, in the west it may mean the massive suffering due to the system of consumption we have historically profited from.  It may be the cost of cheap petroleum in the human and environmental sense.  It could even hint at the cost of protecting physical wealth at the expense of Liberties, in some ways the real inheritance or wealth our ancestors have bequeathed us.


Heavy stuff.  Overwhelming stuff.  


In the Meantime we find ourselves struggling in a vague esoteric mist, disquieting at times, certainly not easy to make direct sense out of.  This configuration may illuminate feelings of being trapped, of longing for a more ideal world.  The will to just escape may be the most prominent noticeable effect of this.
Daydreaming could be an issue, others may be tempted to turn to a bottle, or to a salesman religious or otherwise that promises easy answers.  The trick is?  This is not the sort of moment when quick escapes or easy answers are of much use (and in fact will probably turn out for the worst down the road.)

Give Some Change for Uranus Reborn! Grand Cross, Grand Trine 12/13/11

Today is a hard day for big issues, and it is easy to feel a bit overwhelmed.  Mostly we may find ourselves feeling like we just can't be as magnanimous as we want to.  There is just something that feels so wrong because it feels like we live in a world in which we are unable to act in the ways that we feel better.  I'm not talking about grand displays necessarily, just spare changing that guy who needs it, getting lunch for a friend or pitching in to help those in need.  It may feel frustrating that we find ourselves perhaps in a spot where we feel less able to give than we really earnestly wish we could.  (Grand Cross:  Saturn-Libra, Venus-Capricorn, Jupiter retrograde conjunct Lilith Aries-Taurus cusp).

At the same time there is a sense of optimism at the onset of coming change, if a bit vague.  There is a sense that there is progress in the wind and it will come by hook or by crook.  There is a very real sense that we sit on the very edge of a whole new world.  (Grand Trine: Moon, Uranus back direct again! Aries-Pisces cusp Mercury retrograde Sagittarius-Scorpio cusp; Mercury Square Neptune Pisces/Aquarius cusp)

At the hub of both of these configurations is the moon, our sense of emotion, sensitivities and nurturing self, sitting on a cusp that brings out every inch of desire to do kindly and take care of your fellow beings- The Cancer Leo cusp.  This is where its all hitting us- right in the heart.

The part we look to for an answer?  Uranus has just come out of retrograde (gone direct) and crossed one of the most powerful cusps in the Zodiac (Pisces-Aries).  Uranus rules over openness, newness, revolution, reformation and the forward march of time.  The Pisces-Aries Cusp represents quite literally a moment of death and re-birth.  We find ourselves at this moment of the rebirth.  This is a new birth of the very ideas of freedom, of revolution, of the future itself!  Quite heady to think about!  Uranus emerges new-born to welcome a new cycle, and a new world!

Suggestions?
When we find ourselves wishing we could give more, have more, do more.  When we find ourselves wishing the world gave more room for kindness, may I suggest that if we don't have a coin to toss in the cup, we give what we can.  When you have no change for the coffer, find a way to bring change to the world, in a little way.  Take a small risk for the righteous.  Take a small chance for the greater good.  Stand up for the right when you don't have to.  That's more than enough magnanimity  to fill your heart with joy.  I think you'll feel like a much richer person if your charity is paid in risk and profits all the world, one small token act at a time.

Lunar Eclipse: 12/10/11 Eclipse of Focus

TOTAL LUNAR ECLIPSE – SATURDAY DECEMBER 10, 2011


“A lunar eclipse represents the tightest phase of the aspect (and therefore strongest manifestation) of what we astrologers refer to as a Solar-Lunar opposition. Literally the sun and the moon are on directly opposite sides of the earth from one another. Thus the earth may shield the moon from the light of the sun causing the emblematic shadow across the surface of the moon. Astrologically speaking the general effect is that the moon, representing our emotional state, is shielded from its source: the sun, representing the center of our beings and the source of our energies. In general, a lunar eclipse induces emotional insecurities and a very basic internal conflict between the part of us that says “I AM” and the part of us that says “I FEEL.”
A lunar eclipse (or Sun-Sun opposition) means that our emotional state and sense of self are crashing against each other and causing mass confusion. This can range from a vague feeling of distraction or clumsiness all the way to emotional crisis. The key to keep in mind is that this is not necessarily all negative; all moments and configurations exist for a reason. This is a great time to exercise intention and take the time to slow down and examine our hearts and our sense of identity. To "readjust" our solar direction based on what the heart says. If we do so a lunar eclipse can be not only beneficial, but downright enjoyable as well. Of course, if we refuse to look at these things and just smash forward it is likely to make nothing short of a mess of our emotions.
Let’s take a look at a few things that are going down right now regarding the eclipse:

1.  Moon in Gemini and Sun in Sagittarius. This is a mutable opposition and therefore may have effects that are less pronounced, thankfully. The general effects: emotional moon in Gemini means a kind of detachment and a lack of commitment to any one idea and a scattered feeling. Sun in its Sagittarius position shows a sense of identity and attention that has high hopes, yet lacks focus. The result: you may be all over the place, a bit insecure and have difficulty making firm decisions. This is a time for exploration, not absolutes.
2. Mars is in Virgo, squaring both the sun and moon in what is called a T-Square formation, exacerbates the confusion and scattered energies the opposition of the sun and moon are creating. Representing the part of us who motivates and activates, Mars is stifled under unmanageable picky expectations and a lack of drive. The result is a tendency to simmer in unexpressed frustration, indecisiveness, etc. Outbursts of frustration are likely, personally, and in the larger sense as well. Translation: be very careful of your expectations. Breathe!

Summing it all up: 
Relax this weekend and allow things to come as they come; stay loose. It is not a moment when things will seem to be getting done. Instead of decision making and goal setting, go ahead and explore! Playfully misbehave a little. Don’t forget that Sagittarian optimism is the ticket to all of this! Learn new ways to define the self and find new and unique ways that you fit into the world, because you belong. When this aspect moves on, you'll be surprised at what you’ve discovered about yourself!”

Wild Ride to Enlightenment 12/7/11

You may find yourself drawn to extreme reactions... it is a time of slippery slopes that may whisk us far away form where we began. It is a time of silent mystic transformations, alchemical reactions in which 1 element plus 1 element does not equal 2 elements, but possibly 5, possibly West possibly the color Blue. Buried deep in the very places our attentions and minds are drawn to is radical swift life altering change, and once we begin it will never be the same again. Pholos, Centaur governing radical inexplicable drastic change is conjunct to the Sun in Sagitarius, Quentile Neptune on the cusp of Pisces and Aquarius, and the sun and Pholos are squaring Mars in Virgo, So we may be asked to reexamine how persnickety we are about what we want, sometimes good enough is a great place to begin... A Time to Mend: 12/5/2011

Any subject we can talk about may be seen on many levels. For example if someone made a loud sigh, one could say that they did so because they were annoyed, or they could say they did so because the air escaping quickly from their throat caused a vibrational wave in surrounding air resulting in a sound. Both would be true. In so many ways life has a tendency to lay layer upon layer, it is in many ways why I always felt there was always room for both a logical understanding of the world as well as a well, spiritual (and in point of fact probably many other kinds!) Right now there is some really obvious, fairly in your face stuff going down, Uranus Continues to Square Pluto... Power struggles trying to define the course of a new era... Pluto (Conjunct to Venus) is in a grand trine Earth with Mars and the Moon (conjunct to Jupiter and Lilith) Speaking of a good time to dig deep into ourselves and take a tough look at our integrity, a deep look at how our gain affects others, and to hone our attentions not on our intentions, but our "un-intentions"... how we allow others to suffer for our gain, how we choose to remain naive when it is convenient... Neptune Conjunct to Chiron and Vesta on the Aquarius-Pisces cusp can Lend a hand if we so choose to embrace the mystical energy that comes from an embracing of our inner need to make service to the world around us in the name of our higher good... Saturn Trines in on this Informing us to negotiate negotiate negotiate, and to make all deals verbal and eshew assumptions as to deals made with others!

And now for the deeper “spookier” side... lol ya that wasn't it...

Nessus, ruler of blood feuds, sins of the father, dark vendettas and all manner of old dark creepy things that come from the past to destroy us from within- and therefore forgiveness in its own twisted way- is hanging out in Aquarius. Now his influence is usually relatively mild, and he only shows up when he interacts in a serious way with someone else... In Aquarius, he provides a chance to move on, but a temptation to try to too lightly, now he Quentiles the moon in Taurus... where the moon is most comfy, the moon then Biquentiles Mercy inSagitarius, which then Quentiles... wait for it... Nessus...

Now a Quentile is a magickal opportunity in which two things seemingly incredibly disparate may be combined to create a brilliant genius, even dare I say magickal opportunity beyond any expectation. A bi-Quentil? Is much like a Quentil only tends to be protective, or reactive to outside stimuli... Mostly I don't bring up bi-Quentiles... but when its lodged between two quentiles, it seems to me likely that we may between those 3 have  reactive juices flowing, creating between the three an engine of dare I say it? MAGICKAL POSSIBILITIES!

Here's the deal, we gotta start with Nessus, we gotta start with our resentments, our grudges, our guilt. We gotta look at them, own them, and really really find forgiveness, for ourselves, for others, we gotta do reparations where we can, and admit that reparations are not where we can't... We gotta turn to that solid earthy moon and hold all this in our hearts, without the drama, just the honesty, the kindness and the marvelous strength only powerful sensitivity can bring. Then we gotta thing about it, talk about it, teach about it, and do so with all the optimism, and sage deftness and devil-may-careness of an intellectual Sagittarius, and we have to hold these things next to each other, like a prayer of the mind for the passions, and a prayer of the heart for the body and the earth, and we must hold all that old tired suffering of the past, of the long dead, of our long past childhoods, and the history of this earth, all the world, all the peoples human and otherwise. And if we do it sincerely, and with great courage honesty and humility, to judge none, with the intent to simply make peace... A magickal thing beyond our dreams may occur.

Keeping the Light Going 12/4/11

The moon governor of our sensitivities, still conjunct to a retrograde Uranus now finds itself in Aries. Our emotional state is one of impatience. We may be jumpy and nervous. We long to find something new to hold onto but the wheel is well in spin and it is hard to say where it stops. The position of the moon underlies a Mars already somewhat uncomfortably in Virgo... tending to demotivate through over particularity and indecision through too much detail work, is frustrated by a mercury retrograde conjunct to the Sun in Sagittarius, meaning our focus and thought, turns philosophically inward longing to expand what we are capable of understanding... translation it is easy to have standards so high we have trouble meeting them... in times such as this it is best not to focus on how much we know but simply on the next thing to learn. Remember even the masters of any art or science felt out of their league when faced with all that could be known about even their own particular speciality. The Solar-mercurial placement underlines Jupiter itself in retrograde in Taurus caught in a grand trine with a Pluto Venus conjunction in Capricorn and Mars (yes again with the Mars) in Virgo. Grand trines are usually considered a fairly easy and simply positive (or easily enjoyed) configuration, Pluto Mars and a Jupiter in retrograde make this difficult just by their natures. Jupiter turning inward questioning how it finds its growth in the world, how it tills its fields... how it makes its physical living, This insecurity fuels a tendency to want to play secretly and in a dirty fashion in affairs of politics the law and finance as well as the heart... (Pluto conjunct Venus in Capricorn) both of these encourages and are encouraged by a Mars, our sense of motivation, as well as temper in a picky hard to motivate introspective place.

Wow, its just a ball of frickin' sunshine all over right? OK here's the deal, you can lye there and let his be what you act on. You could also reach for that learning, and embrace the hard work, the rewarding truth that all this is meant to be teaching us. Because the thing is... it is easiest to close up. It is easiest to play darkly, to plot to let insecurity win, to fold to our weakest nature. And if we do, the cycle of this pattern will reinforce the same uncomfortable feelings, the same darkness and we will be ever more compelled to make these same decisions... that path leads to personal destruction. Its as simple as that.

When we take the chance, and face down that fear, and choose to live life with integrity, when we look ourselves in the eye and say, I am afraid yes, I am insecure yes, but I walk forward, I grow one step at a time, and today I do not need to get far, just one step forward, or even hold my ground.

The flame of truth goes back to the very beginning, and it has always been small, but it has been passed hand to hand, and one day it will rage and fill the world with light, and maybe it is even in some ways it is bigger than it ever has been... Sometimes it is enough just to keep the fire going so that it may be passed on... and that alone means that someday the whole world will be warmed in its glow. But if we do not take that one, small, seemingly useless, but magnificently important step forward into the night, it is over.  Step forward, and you might even see a light unexpected, and a future undreamed of!

One Way Doors, Quests, Ideals and the Unknown or Unknowable Strange days of Neptune12/3/11

Writing an Astrology column day to day can be a bit of an interesting task.  Most of the bodies we deal with in astrology do not move a whole lot in a 24 hour period.  The most obvious exception to this is of course the Moon.  Which in terms of our column this time has moved out of Square to the Sun and is now conjunct to Uranus and Square to Venus conjunct Pluto (as is Uranus itself).  (Moon/Uranus on the Pisces Aries Cusp- Uranus in retrograde- Venus and Pluto still in Capricorn)  This points to a sense of emotional uncertainty, disease and a questioning of future plans, things may seem to open, and there may be a growing desire to play our cards close to our chest.  As  told our mom's have no doubt told us, life is sometimes unfair, and in this case uncertain, and maybe at times erratic... and honestly it may be the uncertainty and instability that is the best thing we can hope for right now! After all it is change that we need when the well warn road seems to be heading into dark places, it is perhaps time to cut a new, no matter how uncertain of a path!

Now that we have talked a second about the moon, lets begin with that thought, one of new uncertain paths, and follow it to a deep look at the ruler of Pisces (where the moon happens to be) Neptune, who has just crossed back into Pisces... thus supercharging both... for the long term (as Neptune takes years and years to pass through any sign)  Now Neptune in Pisces creates a misty haze a spiritual intensity and a general dissolution of borders and definitions.  The cusp of Aquarius makes the experience all the more idealistic and distant... in  other words it is easy for the head to float pretty far from the feet under these influences.  Neptune is also Conjunct Chiron- who rules over how we translate past trauma into practical change on the larger scale, and Vesta, how we gain personally from public work that forgoes traditional personal gain.  Translation?  It is a time  for grail quests, and daring deeds, or at least one in which we feel very compelled to such things.  All these influences quentiling Pholos in Sagittarius means, we could find ourselves quickly swept away by such adventuring and romanticism, swept perhaps far beyond to new cities towns continents, and certainly to whole new ways of life.  Neptune Sextil Pluto means that this spiritual draw may speak to healing the sinister nature of our relationships with our institutions if only by holding an example no matter how mythical of what our world should look like.  Sextiling Lilith in Aries?  It gives us a hand questioning the arrogance and head strong ways of our own entrenched ego.

Complex-yes, mysterious- Certainly.  If I were to sum it up?

Try to pay very close attention to the places that the light touches the ground, where your feet build foundation, so as not to lose track,  hold up your ideals, but not so much that you lose complete steering or sight of your path.  And most of all remember that there are doors that only swing one way, and that sometimes things slide very quickly. choose your steps wisely, and be prepared to be swept to the unexpected.

The Engines of Creation: 12/2/2011

Our attentions look for escape, The Sun king and his trickster messenger (Mercury) flirt with ideas of escape, of reaching for a new idea, a new battle, a new self identity. (Sagittarius) The moon, Our sensitivities prevents any direct pragmatic action in this way by seeking a kind of escape from the self, a release from identity of any kind, and has merged with Ceres- the process of nurture and letting go, and may be inclined to, at best seek spiritual guidance rather than immediate action, at worst find escape in one of the many ways we just give up. Our Warrior Mars, he grates against both, tending to place the ideal as enemy of the good. To be so picky and disinclined to act as to roll over and give up.

Uranus, in Retrograde moves back to the very Edge of Pisces from Aries. The march of the future looking inward and questioning the very footing of the world of openness it seeks to create. Squaring and thus challenging Dark Pluto, lord of the powers seemingly beyond our control, but most notably the dark things we bury, and our personal power we hide from, still casting his dark pall in the house of the institution, the law and commerce. He keeps sway, and is joined by tender Venus keeper of our attractions, our desires how we attract and simply our sense of beauty, who may be too afraid, and may tend to guard things jealously and put too much emphasis on the merely material. These 2 goad on Mars in his dissatisfaction and despair, furthering that sense of inertia. Mars of course Furthers Jupiter who is turned inward in retrograde and conjunct to Lilith on the Aries Taurus Border, Questioning and exploring what it means to be established in this physical world, and probably looking into its fears about practically being able to survive in the way that we have come to understand our personal selves. Of course this just heightens the mood layed down by Venus and Pluto.

And meanwhile Saturn, keeper of the boundaries, owner of the celestial brakes, and keeper of the paradigms of work and structure, frustrates Jupiter by impairing negotiations and slowing interpersonal work, and all forms of negotiation (in Libra).

This is not an easy time.

But the wheels of creation have not stopped turning.

And we pause here, difficult as it may be with purpose. A purpose to find meaning, a purpose to know truth, love Justice. We sit as of old, as the writers of the old testament would have it, on the waters of Babylon. This is a bitter bitter moment in many respects, but it is here that we may most honestly know our ideals. It is here that we may find truth in a real way.

This is what REAL hope comes from, what REAL truth comes from. These are the times when valor exists, when Justice means something, and when people show who they really are.

It has been said that the problem with the world is not that there are too many bad people but that too many good people do nothing. The wheel WILL turn forward again. In every age there are moments of unknowable darkness, and it is in those moments that the future is made, the question is NOT whether things will go for the better, but how many suffer, how much darkness before justice is done. There is little in this life we may be certain to choose. Not the time of our births nor the time or cause of our deaths. Not our suffering, nor our accolades. But we may choose what our lives mean. And that is all we know for certain. We may choose to live for integrity, we may choose to live for love, we may choose to live for justice. And then we are the breath of Spirit, the hand of the divine, in some small way... WE ARE THE ENGINE OF CREATION... and it may be stalled, but the maker of worlds will not be silenced.

Tensions, Attentions, and Intentions: Revolutions from the Outside in, and the Insides Out

As we strive to be in control, to own the center of our power, to manipulate our situation, Our heart longs for a faith and security centered in dependability and work. These may feel like they are at odds with one another, but in truth they are not. It is the strong predictable steady work that can see us through the unpredictable times. Remember “job” is only one thing that “work" can mean. Our intuition pulls us to expand our ideas of where our physical riches and empowerment may come from. This is a slow steady process and a transformation that takes time. This is spurred on by a motivation that is both aware of what we deserve and discriminating in what we want. This is in turn spurned on by the realization of how much power and responsibility we have given to unreliable and corrupt institutions. This is a time to redefine our personal physical sustenance to reach for new possibilities out side of the institutionalized powers that be. It is a time to find ways to make new solutions, new whole ways of life, new occupations and new societies. Of course this encourages us to rethink, rework and reinvent our own sense of expansion, to find responsible steady growth in new directions and underlines the issues with the previously stated intuitions.

If we listen we can find inspiration to our “newness” in the redefining revolutionary spirit of our age, which is of course spurring on and spurned on by a search to find limits and define negotiations in our one-on one interactions and especially our personal human and even romantic relationships... an opening to the idea of negotiations and the need to always play diplomat in real human affairs. And if we so choose this impetus may be used to empower the way we go after what we want, and what we expect from the world.

Break it Down:

You a got a right to a chance to flourish. You got a right to an equal chance. You have a right to a place to negotiate what you need on a fair basis in your life in ALL spheres of your life, and a need to respect that in others. As the dirty laundry of our times is aired to the sunlight, and we push to find equality fairness and just a simple place to thrive, we are empowered to change the rules, to reinvent what any of this means, and are empowered to and have a duty to demand these things.

Blam! I went there.

I deserve the right to reach for the sun, to demand fairness and to grow and enjoy. As I reach I expand and the revolution in my heart is the revolution in the world, the liberation of my life is the liberation of all the Earth.

Through the Woods: The landscape is Confusing, but the Path is Clear

Our confident attentive careful footing in the way we go after and the discretion we are compelled to use in our decisions encourages and is encouraged by a slow steady rate of expansion and a steady move into new ventures which is encouraged by and encourages an ongoing reclaiming of power and responsibility from despotic and corrupt tendencies in finances and governance back to the individual, which encourages and is encouraged by the careful confident approach to going after what we want.

Part of that responsibility is demanding it.

and part of demanding it is to recognize that each step closer is a better win than staying in place because of the lack of an immediate optimum solution.
