A Wandering Mind can Sometimes Wander Forward: Balancing Mercury with Mars

This is the fourth part of a series exploring the planet Mercury.  In this and following entries we discuss the way in which Mercury interact with his fellow characters in the sky.  These entries are not a discussion of a current situation in the sky, but rather are included to expand the readers understanding on the subject of astrology in general, and how it applies to creating and maintaining a happy expansive fulfilling life in general! Previous discussions on Mercury include:  More on MercuryVenus-Mercury & Moon, Sun and Mercury.

Keeping the whole self in balance is just a way of saying that we are happy and moving forward and engaged in life- which in its true core, when we are truly tapped into our deep feelings, it means we are also vibrating in harmony with the universe.  In this series on Mercury we have already looked at Mercury in general, Keeping Mercury and Venus in Balance and Balancing Mercury with the Sun and the Moon.

When we discuss the balance between Mercury and Mars we have to acknowledge a basic change in the nature of planetary powers.  Up until now we have been looking at balancing our communication and thought patterns (which is Mercury's purview) with energies that are for the most part primarily focused inward more or less.   The Sun is about self definition and identity, Moon is our sensitivities and feelings, Mercury itself, while a governor of communication really comes at the as a harbinger of thought, and communication, in this case being the extension of thought to others.  Finally, Venus of course is focused on pleasure and desire.  All traits and natures have both an internal and external manifestation, but some things have a predominantly inward focus, some outward.  In general, bodies in the solar system from the Earth (and it's orbit) focus on the inside and translate it to the outside (Sun, Moon, Mercury&Venus).  Bodies from Mars to Saturn are issues of how we interact with the outside world, that of course have a reverberation on our internal space.  Bodies existing in space beyond Saturn are a separate subject that we will discuss when we get to those bodies.

Mars, of course represents the first of these outward focused energies, and this is fitting indeed, because mars is about motivation, it is the push of the solar system.  He rules over how we pursue what we want.  Balancing our thoughts, our words, our talk with our drive (Mercury to Mars)  has an obvious significance, but also great significance well beyond what we might think of off the bat.

There is an obvious question of integrity here. The question of talking the talk vs walking the walk, and while I don't want to downplay this, it is often more of an interaction between Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars. Besides, I also think it is important to look at the issue in a purely mechanical, how to create the life we want perspective, remembering that a life without integrity is not as joyful as one with it, all else being equal.  First off mercury is doing the job of specifically designing what we are after - but this is more of a question of a Mercury-Venus relationship.  A Mercury mars interaction is in many ways much more fundamental, it is a measure of how we encourage ourselves, how we write ourselves into the story of our pursuits.

This, at first look may seem inconsequential.  But lets think of it this way, its not a matter of a single thought, but rather a matter of our constant and ever-present habits of thought.  Its not about what we say, but about how we habitually talk, and how we position ourselves.  Self deprecating conversational patterns undercut our pursuits, cause us to be taken less seriously and draws wind form our sails.  We may build a certain amount of confidence and drive simply by reminding our self in the way we speak and the thoughts we repeat to our self that we are capable confident and good.  Specifically keep in mind that a belief in the ability to learn and adjust is a belief in being able to accomplish anything, eventually.  This mercurial habit of telling ourselves we can adjust, we can learn one step at a time, allows us to first of all get out of the way of our Mars going after what we want, and allow us to keep a good pace on Our Mars.  Mercury can function as both a steering wheel advisor and cheerleader to our Mars, which is our optimum relationship between these.

Lets think about ways of balancing these.  This interaction is one of those that while not necessarily obvious, when we cultivate it it gives us a solid ongoing underlying level of support.  And it is all about how we talk to and about ourselves.  Avoid negatives, find the possibilities hidden in our critique, and speak the possibilities before the critique.  The critical voice is the silencer of the creative progress, and so often some of the trick of this is to do what we are called to, and then edit after the fact.  Mercury is about assessment, Mars production.  So here's a great little Mantra for ya:

"I succeed because I am capable of assessment, I achieve because I can Learn, I achieve because I adapt."

always look for the lesson, and remember the lesson is not a punishment, or a lesson for all time, it is an exercise in bending... as is life

Moon Conjunct Retrograde Pluto Capricorn, Cardinal Cross: Coming to Grips Accounting For Personal Power

As we continue our Grand cardinal cross Let us take a look at a little piece of the picture that is new.  As the Moon comes Conjunct to Pluto (in Retrograde) opposing the Moons own house (Moon's House is Cancer and Pluto and the moon are in Conjunction in Capricorn).
A Moon conjunction with Pluto calls for an investigation and reflection on our personal power, and how we give it away.  And while the confluence of Pluto and the Moon generally indicate a kind of spiritual and emotional power, the placement of these in Capricorn indicate a call to the understanding of how these needs are helped or hindered by simple economical and physical needs.  Mundane now needs.
What expectations do we hold onto that undermine our independence and self reliance?  What presumed dependence, or unexplored dependencies rule us?  I n what ways do we allow ourselves to be dependent on others without owning up to it?
All this and much much more is the exploration that we find ourselves needing to investigate and resolve.

'Simple Mantra: A simple Mercury aid (putting your mind to work for you!)

Wanna know my SEEEECRET?  My Secret is while a useful tool, you don't NEEED Astrology to learn anything. Because Astrology is a useful tool that allows us to get into stuff, that when we're working at our peak our own intuition is perfectly privy to.  Why do we use astrology?  Why hopefully to get us at peak of course.  (peak being in-tune and listening to the vibratory symphony of the universe, and yes we all fall a bit out of tune from time to time- Thus Astrology!- and Things like-and unlike it!)

But lets share with you a little all-purpose trick, helps most of the time, never frickin' hurts.  When we feel overwhelmed it can be coming from all sorts of sources symbolized by all sorts of placements of any astrological body.  But ultimately manifestation, which is what we're after (even if just manifesting a mood) takes a certain course through the planets, beginning with the sun and the moon (I am, I feel) coursing through mercury (I think)up through Venus (I enjoy/want)  and into Mars (I attain), from Mars to Jupiter (I grow), and From Jupiter to Saturn ( physical reality, I am in the now, I am limited- IE Manifest).
Now if we can get those inner couple firing well and running smoothly we can leverage them to help the rest of the works, and the easiest tool for the job?  Why it Mercury!  It moves so fast, it is easily influenced.  The mind wanders easily, the conversation does too, but because they wander so easily they are also what we are most capable of actively and consciously focusing (in fact I do believe the very concept of consciously focusing may be embedded in the very identity of Mercury).
So if we can train our minds and thoughts we can eventually leverage this out, and through small
of easy changes (such as repetition of a thought or word... A Mantra.  We may influence how all other parts balance against each other.  Mind you nothing may be in balance that is not in balance with the rest, and nothing is in balance with the universe that is not first in balance with itself.
But here's a nice thing to do, when you are flustered worried, in doubt, freaking out or out of whack:

1. Remember that Mars and Venus in perfect balance (IE attraction and how I pursue me)  What I want desires me back, and thus are magnetically drawn to one another.
2. We push away things by dealing in negatives, stressing about what we "should be" making ourselves more acceptable etc etc.
3. positivity energizes and nothing is as loud to the universe as a big thank-you!

Translation (and your new mantra):
Relax, Be Yourself, Be Grateful (repeat as necessary)

focus on what you want, or just joy and Love.  It sounds simple but it will make things better, and practiced enough it will bring amazing things into your life!

Meditations for Jupiter:(Taurus) Venus (Cancer) Sextil, current and helpful

I open to possibilities on the outside, and opportunities present themselves.  I open to possibilities on the inside, I make more room for joy, love and success.  When I choose to be open, and to pursue the things that I love the process of doing, I can not but Succeed.

Getting to the Point: Openning to the Heart of What We Really Want, While Relaxing the Specifics

After a few days of what can only be described as deep heavy transformative excitement, it may feel like somewhat of a relief, that while the pressure of the grand Cardinal cross is still in play (and in fact includes a solar-Venus Conjunction  now) so of the intensity has relaxed in certain respects with the end of both the Star of David, followed by the Fire Kite.  Both of these were very catalytic experiences and provided for moments of great insight.  While the act of gaining insight, the act of learning what we want, is very good, the time of such events is often exhausting.

Under the conditions we find ourselves, maybe the best thing we can do is take a look at our thoughts and expectations and start editing.  What I mean by this is that sometimes its about boiling down what we want to the true essence there in and therefore allow ourselves to drop or loosen specific expectations and allow ourselves the fluidity and limberness to adjust to a fast-changing situation.

And, as luck would have it there is an interaction right now that EVEN helps with that!  Now Automatically Our current Saturn in Libra is trined to our Mars in Gemini.  This means quite simply that Mars, which represents how we go after things, our inner assertive nature etc, is focused in a philosophical way, detached very able to be objective and fairly non-committal, Saturn sits in Libra, which means that Limitations and boundaries feel somewhat intellectually negotiable, mind you because its Saturn and Mars, that particular negotiation may seem almost unavoidable, and pressured upon us.  No matter, give in, its for your own good, and pushing back will just hurt more.

In addition there is a sextil relationship between mercury and these 2 planets, Mercury hanging in Leo.  This means that our communication and intellect can take the lead, and we feel confident enough in our communication, and simply thinking skills that we can make the rest of it that much easier!  My advise?  Use that Mercurial "sunny-ness" to explore possible manifestations that while they go down unexpected paths still fill you with the essential emotional results that your expectations had attached to them.  It is in this exploration and embrace of a plurality of possible positive outcomes that we may loosen up and remain fluid enough to keep ourselves in tune with this exciting time of constant redefinition!  Keep an eye on the most important bit... that's your Joy, not the symbols of your Joy!

Affirmation:
I open to Joy, I open to Spirit.  I Let go of my assumptions of the face they will wear so I may embrace them in any guise!

Fire Trine-kite, Grand Cardinal Cross, Be present, Listen, But by all Means Rage

Today, we continue with the long-running subject of the grand Cardinal cross which has been a "significant motivating factor" for quite some time now- and to come.... So seriously if your stressed its all about listening and making changes...  And today is the day suited to do it for goodness sake.

Remember how the Pluto-Venus axis was in the center of the works in the last article?  well that star has shifted out, and we've shifted into yet another prominent (but not nearly as prominent as the star) configuration.  A Fire Grand trine with Saturn Sextiling 2 of the planets putting an "air Tail" on what we call a kite.

Now a Grand trine, as started before is a series of three (or more) bodies who's energy rolls very easily from one to the next.  In this case we have Uranus the march of the future, the idealist in Radical raging Aries, and Conjunct (in astrological terms it means the 2 energies are united and build off each other) Ceres, our little power of nurturing and letting go, and when she's paired up with Uranus in Aries, it is a grand couple of letting go both giving and gaining independence, and speaking with very few compunctions.  To make this more fun we trine that with a Mercury in Leo which means we are up for a gregarious posture in our speech and maybe a bit too much bravado... Trined finally to the Moon hanging out in Sagittarius which builds and emotional longing for chances taken excitement and adventure (not to mention travel) well its clear how these 3 energies can spiral very quickly, possibly out of control.  Especially with the kind of pent up energy being held by a grand cardinal cross.

Add to that that Saturn in  Libra (our little planet of law, order and boundaries) is opposing Uranus... But this is where it gets good!  Up until now we've been talking about the stuff that affects you no matter what you do, sure you can choose to use it proactively or destructively, but these vibrations show themselves one way or another... enter the sextils between Saturn in Libra and The moon, as well as Mercury.  If we pay very close attention we can listen very closely to "the moment" and find a rudder to Steer that beautiful Uranian chaos!

It just listening first, and while.... its just making absolutely sure that when our cork pops, we are very present, and not just in out little diatribe, that we are actively Negotiating (Libra) the rules and expectations with others as we go... This allows us to take what is essentially a good messy thing, and turn it into a better slightly less messy thing?

If in Doubt listen, but rage today, by all means Rage!

Magickial Fantastical Opportunities of Profound Forgiveness and Imaculate Grace: Jupiter Quentil Nessus

Nessus is possibly a fairly obscure object in the sky, but I ain't here to give out the obvious!  Hopefully I am giving you the most exciting opportunities for personal growth, and whoa Nelly if this ain't a doozy!

Nessus is a Centaur, an object with an erratic wild orbit (Chiron is a more commonly discussed centaur).  Nessus  rules over concepts such as "historical guilt"  vendettas, ancestral feuds, family secrets, and grudges.  As such Nessus also rules over getting the heck over them, and the mark of the past..

Now Nessus (in open objective Aquarius) is Quentil to Jupiter in Taurus.  Now a Quentil is an unusual, strange but when accessed brilliant surprising and powerful aspect that has a creative unexpected genius and often magickal property!  Because of the nature of a Quentil it is hard to give an exact description of how it will manifest or how to utilize it, but I can certainly give some great tips!

Jupiter in Taurus means slow persistent progress, mellow optimism and steady self confidence. Nessus is 3rd deaconate Aquarius which means we are in a place to examine our own feelings on such things in a dispassionate way with and eye to moving forward and letting go of old weights, redefining so that we may move to a positive future.  Because it is in the 3rd deaconate some public discussion is called for, but remember keep it light keep it airy, focus on moving forward not rehashing old things.  Ultimately the key here is Jupiter, keeping an open mind and focusing ultimately on the idea that chances are, at least at this point nobody involved wants anything more than healing, and to be open to the best possible interpretation of the actions and words of others.

It ain't easy but I believe that the rewards of forgiveness are mostly for the one forgiving and the rewards of grace... boundless!

Affirmation:

I am strong enough and capable enough and loving enough to open to forgiveness, to let go of the past and to enter into a new and positive relationship with all people in my past.  To set aside old ugliness by airing them dispassionately with an eye to acknowledging and letting go.  When I lay down the burdens of past I may dance forward into the future.

Over-Coming Isolation. Saturn Restrains, but Climbs with Intent

I also want to focus in on a specific aspect of the Cardinal Grand cross that may well be causing a marked effect on all our lives... and in fact because its been in a rough spot in more than one ways before this, our Saturn In Libra probably evokes feelings that seem to have been building over a long time.
Libra is the house of intimacy, Saturn is the king of boundaries of limitations of taking things slow and building them securely.  As such while Saturn is getting hit from all sides: Pluto: which fosters a question of personal power and distrust (until of course we claim our power and can trust fully because of it!), Uranus in Aries : which fosters feelings of things being out of control chaotic, and everything changing very fast without respit (until we embrace the newness to come and recognize that it is the harbinger of hope!)  and finally a loose Solar -Venus Conjunction in Cancer (Here I have increased the orb for reading the conjunction based on the amount of energy  envigorating both of these planets just by being in this grand cross)  which of course causing a longing for gamily and close intimacies... (just making the other 3 worse... but this is the one drive I think probably just needs to be embraced as a positive goal... IE stop focussing on the lack and start thinking about the goal).

When it comes to the Saturn of the matter here is the plan.  Saturn is asking you to build real reliable intimacy.  It asks, is this relationship really what we think it is?  Maybe it works better in another way.  Saturn asks us to  put ourselves on a step by step long term trajectory of positive healthy intimacy, not just accept the ones we have.  In the long run this can be SUCH a good thing!

The point here is to start reallocating our time (yes Time is a key word of Saturn) and work (another Saturn word) so that we are putting our energy into arenas in which we are liukely to find the kind of intimacy we desire, it asks us to build our house in this world around what we want on a spiritual level.  What feelings, values, ideas do we want?  and where can we find them.
Then one step at a time we do a small thing every day to put ourselves in the place we want to be... really its that easy.

To all of us feeling lonely: Stop.  Find the best intimacy you can in the now.  Set up your time to build new intimacy that meets your needs, and rejoice, because you are on your way to such wonderful wonderful riches   of love... in fact you already have them!

In the mean time, find a comfortable space to sit or lay.  Put on some soft music if you like (best without vocals or in a language you do not understand)  breath in as slowly and as fluidly as you can until your chest is full and abdomen extended, hold for a slow count of 3 exhale slowly in the same manner until your lungs are completely empty again hold for a slow count of 3.  Repeat this until your mind is empty.  As thoughts occur to you think irrelevent, and release them.  then feel the love of the universe inside you and focus on that.  do this as long as it takes to stick, and repeat as often as necessary.

Doing this alone will in and of itself increase the joy of your life and open the door to intimacy.

A Mantra for A Saturn in Peril in Libra:

I build strong open beautiful intimacy every moment of every day, enjoying the process and loving my way through it.  I build a life with all the opportunities I need and rejoice for I am a child of the Universe and as such have a great wealth of Love around me at all times.

And for those who have lost a lover:

I embrace the trueness of my new relationship with my love, and I rejoice that every moment a new love blossoms as the old friendship deepens.

And for those for whom a beloved have crossed over:

I open my heart to a new relationship with my beloved as a spiritual brother/sister, teacher, healer guide and ancestor.

Grand Earth Trine: a call to integrity and patience

Meanwhile while all this other stuff is going on... and yes that's exactly how it is!  There is a reason things seem crazy, its because this is just such a vibrationally jam-packed moment!  Well while all the stuff I've been talking about is still happening (see my last blog, and all the blogs sited there-in) there is yet another bit of intensity I'd like to focus your attention on!

An interaction between the Moon in Virgo, Pluto in Capricorn and Jupiter in Taurus, lined up precisely in what is called a grand trine, which means they sit in such a way that when you draw a line between them on the chart they form a perfect equilateral triangle...  Specifically this is the most powerful of the "soft" aspects, pushed to its strongest ,manifestation.

Now the results of a grand trine will be felt no matter what you do, but it may be to our best interest to get in ahead of this and try to turn it to the best possible manifestation and most positive side of it.  Let's look at what it means:

Moon: our emotional guidance system is geared toward the specific and toward health (Virgo) flows easily and lends energy to (and receives energy from) our sense of optimism, possibilities, opportunities and expansion (Jupiter) which is geared in a consistent process oriented committed comfortable pattern (Taurus) which is giving and receiving energy from the interaction of personal power vs political power and airing of collective dirt/healing dark secrets (Pluto) which is currently operating within the realms of the Law, Money and Patriarchal Power (Capricorn) which of course is also giving and receiving power from our sensitivities.

This aspect can play very well or very poorly, and the secret here is Pluto magick.  The secret to Pluto is to own your own power and refuse to take a victim stance.  This often time does not actually mean fighting... this usually means finding a way (when possible) to refuse to give energy to the powers that be... to take our personal metaphysical ball and go home.  Let the Pluto within keep his power, and the Pluto without disappears as the illusion he is.  Part of the key to this is all about honesty with ourselves and with others.  Asking for what we need directly and knowing that if we can not get it honestly from one source then there is a better source out there that we can.  Beyond this it is about letting go of expectation, and being as loose as possible.  If we can keep our Pluto playing on the positive level, it is a time of real potential to set positive growth in motion, starting with what we feel we want, translating it into what we know we can create, taking that to empower our sense of personal power, and once again using that sense of personal power to empower ourselves emotionally to keep on it!

One hand washes the other one back scrubs the next!  They key, focus in on integrity, honest and healing through sunlight and open air!

Affirmation:

I build a future worth living, a life worth having enjoying every step of the way and the process of creating with full disclosure honesty flexibility and a firm unapologetic statement of my needs!

Mars Moon Neptune Mutable T-cross: Quest for Meaning Search for Passion

So lets set aside everything we've been talking about (which is certainly in play still) and look at something maybe a bit more directly personal.  In addition to the major interaction of the Grand cardinal cross, pushing us in ways to come to grips with our greater world, and in fact seek to redefine it.  There is another Major hard aspect going on right along side.  This is a little more short lived but worth paying attention to while it lasts.  The Moon is currently in Virgo (and energized as the sun is in its home house of Cancer) it is in opposition to Neptune (who is also energized sitting in its native house of Pisces) both of which are squaring Mars in Gemini.
Neptune takes the lead in this situation as it is in its own house at its strength, is also the slowest moving of the bodies, and has a natural water affinity to the 2nd most powerful object in this scenario... the moon.  (although Mars has a potential of added energy from a sextil to Uranus in Mars' native house)
Squares and oppositions are by nature motivators, and thus if they are being unheeded to to present themselves to some degree as discomfort.  Because these are mutable signs, and because the nature of the Neptune and Lunar influences, this is a motivation to understanding, internal discovery and finding what we want.

The place of Mars in this puts us in mind of a search to understand where our passion is and how it fits in with the greater social arena.  The vibe is right to become clear on roles emotionally in context of learning craft, and perhaps more specifically the craft of feeling and nurture (Moon in Virgo) in this there is a strong call to paying attention to personal emotional energy, and making sure we are taking the alone or emotional down time we need.

Neptune calls us to examine and experience, to spiritually hold attention without defining or deciding.  To allow ourselves the right to experience, to know what we want, a new powerful passion within the world of humans (mars in Gemini).  The secret here?  Faith that it will emerge in the spiritual fog when we don't press the issue, when we don't hold tight to any preconceived notion.  To know that the passion we need is even now formulating itself in the great mist of our spiritual unknowing.

In some Quabalistic thinking the Sephiroth of Yesod (which is aligned energetically with the moon) is a mysterious spot right before manifestation.  It is also associated with the 2nd chakra, where our sexuality, empathy and emotions sit.  Here in lies part of the secret, desire creates manifestation.

Kether, the crown, the unknowable spiritual origin, the unspeakable ideal is associated with Neptune.  When we challenge Neptune for specifics, we, like the seekers of the grail go mad, because holding the grail in a literal sense is not a reality, the thing you seek is too grand to put in mind words or object.  We can only sit in our center and hold appreciation for Kether, listening and waiting for manifestation, it is from here that the passion and fire will emerge, and it is from this that we may build the future we only preferably have started to dream of.

things to look at in addition:
