Pallas Athena, is yet another one of those crazy bodies in the asteroid belt. I have seen her described as corresponding to the way we “rationalize” our emotions, let me take a bit more expanded understanding of her character.
Pallas Athena (often written simply as Pallas) corresponds to how we manage our emotions in the face of adversity, while for many this may be tantamount to rationalization, I hope there are more healthfully functioning people in the world than that. In the story of the Amenities, it is Athena who quells the rage of the furies, with a quiet mind and fair judgement. The furies then become the amenities, who are charged with the safe and comfortable household and day to day life.
Pallas Athena represents a certain amount of intellectual discipline, sometimes she allows us to our thoughts, sometimes to pull an inch or 2 back from our emotions in the context of the circumstances. At her best Pallas Athena represents our internal Triage nurse and it is in crisis management that she shows her best side (when she's in balance).
As with all the asteroids she represents characteristics that are traditionally seen as feminine. She can assess a situation rationally, bring a coolness to our heads while still alerting recognizing an intense situation.
Pallas Athena allows childbirth, and is the firm quality of nurses and mothers in crisis. She is an excellent example of the stregnth of the femanine. Pallas Athena allows us to survive and thrive.
Pallas Athena is the 3rd in a series on asteroids. Traditionally viewed as minor and feminine, they highlight issues that can be very important in of personal lives.
